Hello everyone, Today I will blog about a totally different topic rather than the regular product reviews. I received a newsletter from Himalaya Herbals about "Osteoporosis" which educated me a lot about the silent disease. Mostly women are prone to this disease and hence after a certain age we need to take care of a few things in order to keep this disease at bay.

Below is the Newsletter about Osteoporosis which I like to share with you all. I hope you all will find it helpful.....

7 Ways to Keep Osteoporosis at Bay:

Eat a calcium-rich diet, which includes milk, yoghurt, cheese, broccoli, spinach and soy products.

It has been revealed that Vitamin D stimulates the absorption of calcium into the body. So ensure that you are exposed to some sunshine everyday!

The acid in soft drinks washes the enamel off teeth and depletes calcium from bones. Reduce your intake of soda beverages.

Avoid alcohol, coffee and smoking. These have been linked to bone disorders like osteoporosis.

Strengthening and weight bearing exercises are a good way to keep your bones healthy. Ensure that you get adequate exercise each day.

Drink green tea! Green tea, full of antioxidants, helps in building bone mineral density.Eat unpurified or natural salts, which is rich in vital trace elements

Ayurveda for Osteoporosis:

According to the traditional Indian system of medicine Ayurveda, osteoporosis is a vata disorder. This is an element or a dosha, which is condensed from element or space. Ancient texts claim that bones become porous due to an excess of air and ether, which results in this particular health condition.
To balance the vata dosha or to treat osteoporosis, Ayurveda recommends herbs like ginger, long pepper and cinnamon. For menopausal women, red pepper, parsley, sage and fennel-rich diet is advised to retain bone mineral density.

Treating Osteoporosis:

Drawing from Ayurvedic texts, at Himalaya, we have developed a range of herbal drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis:

Reosto restores bone mass and increases the mineral content in bones. It also alleviates associated pain with osteoporosis. Containing naturally-forming calcium, Resosto helps in maintaining healthy bone structure.
Osteoporosis is common in older women, who are suffering from menopause. Himalaya's Menosan helps in postmenopausal symptoms, of which brittle bones due to bone tissue degeneration is a major concern.
Geriforte helps in early new bone deposition by formation of callus formation in osteoporosis. It is known to promote cellular regeneration.
